What types of tests are offered by Switch Health at the Toronto Pearson Airport?

Switch Health offers two types of COVID-19 tests at Toronto Pearson Airport: RT-PCR (Reverse Transcription-Polymerase Chain Reaction) testing and Rapid Antigen testing.

What is the cost of a test?

We offer our Rapid Antigen tests for $60 (plus HST) or a family pack of four for $220 (plus HST). Our PCR tests are $140 (plus HST) or a family pack of four for $480 (plus HST). We also offer an expedited PCR test with results in as little as 6 hours for $250 each.

When will results be available for these tests?

Results for RT-PCR testing performed on-site will be available within approximately 12-24 hours. However, Switch Health offers an expedited service where you can obtain the results of your RT-PCR test in as little as 6 hours at an additional cost. Rapid Antigen tests results can be available in as little as 30 minutes.

Where is the testing facility at the airport?

The testing facility is at the Value Park Garage (VPG), located at 6145 Viscount Road. The in-person clinic is located on VPG Level 3. The drive-through option is located on VPG Level 1. There is no parking at the Value Park Garage. It is only open for the drive-through service. If you are driving to the airport to take a test at the in-person clinic, please park in the Terminal 1 or Terminal 3 parking garages. From Terminal 1 or Terminal 3, take the free Terminal Link Train to the “Viscount Station and Value Park Garage” stop. Then follow the directional signage to walk to the clinic on Value Park Garage Level 3.

Is testing available 24/7?

The testing clinic is open 5 AM – 11 PM, 7 days a week. Our labs update results 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

How long will the entire process take?

COVID-19 testing is a quick and easy process and should not take more than 5-10 minutes for the whole process, from registration through testing administration.

Do I have to reserve a test in advance?

Planning is a significant part of travel, especially with the ever-changing international protocols related to the pandemic. We strongly encourage all travelers to be informed of protocols and guidelines for destination countries and to reserve their testing in advance to make sure that there are no delays in getting results prior to their departure.

Do I need to schedule an appointment? How do I do that?

Yes, all travellers are encouraged to book an appointment before being tested at Toronto Pearson. To book an appointment, please click here. Walk-ins are welcome at the in-person clinic, our drive-through clinic is by appointment only. Travellers requiring rapid RT-PCR testing must book an appointment.

Will you accept walk-ins without an appointment?

Switch Health accepts walk-ins at our in-person clinic, subject to availability. However, we encourage travellers to book in advance to avoid disruptions in their travel plans. Our drive-through clinic and rapid RT-PCR tests are by appointment only.

How do I access my results?

Your results will be posted online on your Switch Health account. To create an account, please visit https://portal.switchhealth.ca. Once your results are ready, you will be notified via SMS and/or email. You may access your results on your mobile or electronic device. If you do not have a mobile/electronic device, you may request a printed copy of your results. Additional charges may apply.

Why are you offering both types of tests?

While Rapid Antigen tests provide results more quickly, they are not accepted by all countries as a valid test for entry. As such, RT-PCR tests, the gold standard in COVID-19 laboratory testing, are offered as well. Passengers will have to check with their destination country for authorized tests prior to booking a test with us. We suggest starting with this interactive map on the Sherpa website. We don’t maintain this website, so we recommend confirming these requirements with official government resources provided by the country you plan to travel to. Switch Health and Toronto Pearson International Airport are not responsible for ensuring travelers book the correct test or perform their test within the appropriate timeline.

Are these tests accepted by all countries?

While our tests are approved by Health Canada, and widely accepted by most international destinations, it is up to the passenger to be informed of destination country protocols, testing guidelines, and timelines. It is also up to the passenger to plan accordingly and reserve their tests in advance to avoid delays in their departures. We suggest starting with this interactive map on the Sherpa website. We don’t maintain this website, so we recommend confirming these requirements with official government resources provided by the country you plan to travel to.

What happens if I get a positive result?

An RT-PCR positive result is automatically forwarded to local Public Health and the requisitioning physician. They will be in touch with you about delaying travel plans and mandatory isolation measures. Switch Health is not responsible for any travel costs associated with a positive result such as flight and hotel cancellations or rebooking fees. A positive result from a rapid antigen test must be followed up by a confirmatory RT-PCR test. This can be performed on-site (at cost) or can be performed by local Public Health.

What happens if I get an inconclusive or damaged test result?

If your result comes back inconclusive, you will be referred to the nearest COVID-19 assessment centre, where you will need to take another test. This may result in travel interruptions.Switch Health is not responsible for travel costs associated with inconclusive test results. Public Health centres offer COVID-19 tests free of cost.

What happens if my test is damaged?

If your test comes back damaged prior to departure, you may be required to take another test and reschedule your flight. You do not need to pay for additional testing costs if your test is damaged. Switch Health is not responsible for travel costs associated with damaged test results.

If I am symptomatic, can I get tested?

If you are symptomatic, please reach out to your local Public Health authorities for more information about symptomatic COVID-19 testing. Switch Health does not offer clinic COVID-19 testing for symptomatic individuals. For more information, please go to: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/self-assessment/

What details are included in the test results?

Test results include patient information to confirm identity, the date and time of the test/results, test type, the laboratory used, ordering physician, and the results themselves. Switch Health offers test results in English and French. Please note that the Rapid Antigen test is a qualitative test used to detect COVID-19 from a nasal sample. Results reporting for this type of test does not include laboratory information as it is a point of care test.
