How are COVID-19 tests administered?
Depending on where you are being tested, Switch Health offers both bilateral anterior swabs and nasopharyngeal swabs to our patients. For travellers, some countries require a nasopharyngeal swab for entry.
The bilateral anterior swab goes 1-1.5 cm into the nasal cavity. The nurse swirls the swab for 15 seconds and then performs same activity on the second nasal cavity.
The nasopharyngeal swab goes 5-7.5cm into on nasal cavity, swirling for 8 seconds.
All public health testing uses nasopharyngeal swabbing.
